Alice in "Wonderland" Review

17-year-old Alice (Mia Wasikowska) attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. She runs off, following the White Rabbit (Michael Sheen) into a hole and ends up in Wonderland, a place she visited in a similar manner 10 years before, yet doesn't remember. Wonderland was a peaceful kingdom until the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter) overthrew her sister, the White Queen (Anne Hathaway). The creatures of Wonderland, such as the Cheshire Cat (Stephen Fry), Tweedledee and Tweedledum (Matt Lucas) and the March Hare (Paul Whitehouse), ready to revolt, wait for Alice to help them. With the help of the White Queen, the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) and the Caterpillar (Alan Rickman), Alice starts seeing flashbacks of her original visit, back when she was seven.

Well, I watched this movie yesterday, and all I can say is that it is a very average show.. I was never Tim Burton fan and I don't think I will ever be. The good old classic story of Alice in Wonderland was the favorite childhood story for many kids in the past. However in this movie, there is no magic of "Wonderland", instead it truly depicts the original name of the world "Underland". The environment looks like it has been gone through hell, and the castles and other scenery looks dull to me.

As for the casts, "Alice" is played by Mia, and her acting although isn't terrible but I don't really feel much honesty from the performance. Instead I was scratching my head thinking why she look so gloomy most of the time with the eyebrows squeezed together. As for Johnny Depp, I feel sorry for him... In this movie I don't feel the quirkiness that was portrait by the famous Jack Sparrow role which made him so unique, and personally I hate the weird make-up as the Hatter. There is more lameness and coolness to the character "Hatter" as he didn't really show any "fantastic" moment during the movie except for dialogues after dialogues. Although there are some funny parts in the movie, it wasn't memorable.

Comparing this to Avatar, hands down the graphics department is won by Avatar by 5 years different. The CG was simple, its good but not outstanding. I don't recommend this movie to be watch in 3D as it isn't worth it. This is just an "ok" movie for me...
